A former Dale County corrections officer is facing jail time after entering a guilty plea in court. This all started back in August with sexual misconduct allegations.

Joshua Mcvickers admits he’s guilty. That was his plea to custodial sexual misconduct charges. He allegedly committed the crimes while he was a corrections office in the Dale County Jail.

“When the other corrections officers were busy, he actually went in and pulled one of the inmates out of the cell block and I think they had a relationship that was inappropriate,” Sheriff Wally Olson said.

Even with the jail’s tight surveillance, “he was able to find a blind spot in the security system of the cameras,” he said.

The accusations don’t stop with the relationship. Sheriff Olsen says McVickers got close with another inmate…and started stealing.

“He utilized them and actually gave him access to a bank account and I believe he took from that as well.”

Before working at the jail, McVickers served time in the military which is one of the reasons why Olson was disappointed.

“And as far as I’m concerned, Mr. McVickers really gave us a black eye. You know and I was really disappointed in him because of you know what he has done in his life and then for him to do this. But you know, I am also a firm believer in that everyone can make a mistake.”

Moving forward, Sheriff Olson says he hopes the corrections officers continue to hold each other accountable.

“The reason I put more than one person on a shift is not only for the safety of the corrections officers when dealing the inmates but to police each other,” Olson said.

McVickers will be in court again on April 11th. The judge will decide whether he spends up to 4 years in jail if he is put on probation.

If McVickers is to go to jail he could go to a place designated for convicted law enforcement, to keep them isolated from the other inmates.
