City commissioners took a step towards creating a nature preserve in Dothan.
They are proposing about 400 acres to be part of the Forever Wild Trust.
Tuesday, commissioners approved the donation of about 50 acres to the trust if the project is accepted.
The park would start near Fortner and would go down to the old Beaver Creek waste water treatment plant.
“So it goes from high land all the way down to swamp land if you were going to go out and look at nature there is a variety of birds. A variety of other animals, and I just think it's logical,” said Dothan City Manager Mike West.
They will present their proposal to Forever Wild leaders later this month.
