ASHFORD-- Clara Brown was one disappointed customer after hearing that the Food Depot in Ashford is closed for the time being.
"This is the only grocery store and the closest one we have to go to. I live down in Pansey and then I do all of my grocery shopping here in Ashford at Food Depot."
Now Clara says she will have to go to either Donaldsonville or Dothan for simple grocery items.
"I know it will take a big impact on me because I'm right here now to get a loaf of bread. And now where am I gonna get it?"
But even though there is enough damage for the store to have to remain closed for now, the Food Depot supervisor says there was only minimal loss.
"It was just a small fire and it was contained right in front of the building by the ice machine.""Just a small area of the wall has to be replaced where it caught on fire.""Other than that, there wasn't a lot of damage. There wasn't much of a loss at all."
Shelley says they even hope to be open as early as tomorrow.
"We're hoping to be open tomorrow morning at six o'clock, that is what we're working for. We're gonna be here as long as it takes to try to get everything cleaned up so we can open the store back up."
And as for the shoppers...
"I'm just sorry they had their accident here today and I hope they get it back in business soon."
But for now ... They'll be traveling a little further to the nearest grocery store
