Flu Season Causes Increase in Influenza Cases

Flu season is in full swing and it's been hitting Houston County.

Health department officials say there's been an increase of confirmed cases of influenza in Houston County in these past couple of weeks.

They say it's nothing the public should be alarmed about just yet.

They say as soon as you feel flu like symptoms, you should see a physician.

Most importantly officials say to get vaccinated.

"It doesn't necessarily mean that you won’t get the flu, but we hope that you get a milder case of the flu so that you don't have the complications that some have and they end up in the hospital," Houston County Health Department Assistant Administrator, Corey Kirkland.

Health department officials say everyone 6 months and older is encouraged to get a flu shot.
