Dothan Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Ethridge says it's important to keep water handy and to make sure that children over the age of 16 are handling fireworks.

He says it's also important to make sure children are properly supervised if they do decide to handle any type of fireworks, including sparklers.

"One of things that adults like to give to our small children is sparklers, they're pretty, the kids have fun with them, they don't realize that they reach up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, " says Ethridge.

A reminder, it is illegal to shoot fireworks in Dothan city limits.
