This blaze was so large that it woke up the neighbors.
Multiple people called 9-1-1 to try and save the house, but it was too late.

This is what's left of the Thomas house off Riverview road in Daleville.

“It was about two thirty in the morning and my wife came in the bedroom and said I hear gun shots and I can see police cars outside, so I looked out the window and the house next door was fully engulfed.” Neighbor Scott Dexter said.

Neighbors called the Thomas’s to make sure they were out of the burning house

“I had a phone call from one of my neighbors, she called and said my house was on fire. I said my house was on fire? “Fire victim Francine Thomas said.

Luckily, Thomas and her daughter were at another residence when the fire broke out.
But they weren’t sure if another relative, Leon, was in the home.

“As I came around the corner I seen my house was up in flames and when I didn’t see the truck, I knew he was at work.” Thomas said.

The house was gone within minutes, and continued to threaten others next to it.

“The biggest thing is that those houses down there are so close together and once one structure gets going well in the middle of the night, it’s going to spread rapidly” We have one complete loss and one house that had substantial damage, all the roofs gone on it, the one on the left sustained some considerable damage but he still has his house.” Daleville assistant fire chief captain Charles Sapp said.

In total, three houses were ruined by the fire.

“I lost everything. Everything what you see I have on.” Fire victim Leon Thomas said.

But out of three houses, no one was injured.
And despite devastation and complete loss of almost everything they owned.
The Thomas’s still have hope.

And hopefully one day we will rebuild somewhere.

Maybe even in the spot their home once stood.
Firefighters say they didn't have a hard time finding a fire hydrant.
However there was one two houses down from the blaze that was buried under grass and weeds.
Neighbors think the fire could have been contained faster if the fire hydrant was visible.
