Dothan, AL - Sylvia Phillips and her husband visited the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens Saturday just to check it out, but they left with new additions for their own yard.
“I just came to the Botanical Gardens to walk through and plant sale. Yay!” said Phillips.
The Wiregrass Master Gardener’s were holding their annual fall plant sale. It was a chance for people to brighten their garden on a budget.
Phillips said, “It’s very nice, it’s very nice. It’s economical, and they have lots of varieties.”
“You get the best plant deals at Master Gardener plant sales. They’re healthy plants. You know the sources of all of our plants and where they’ve come from,” said Beth Arnold, Wiregrass Master Gardeners.
You’re getting more than quality plants. The advice can’t be beat. Master Gardeners say now is the time to plant trees, shrubs, perennials, and bulbs.
“The reason for that is most of those things are going to go dormant above ground, but below ground the roots are still growing and getting stronger and getting healthy. So when spring comes you’ve got a good solid support system,” said Cheryl Hatcher, Wiregrass Master Gardeners.
One more tip:
“The biggest thing is to get a soil test. To know what’s going to grow and to help it grow well you need to know the PH of your soil,” said Hatcher.
Follow this advice and your garden will be the brightest on the block in no time.
Funds raised from the plant sale go to charities that support horticultural activities.
