One local school gives back to the community to ensure those less fortunate receive a holiday meal.
Faine Elementary participated in the Salvation Army food drive for the month of November.
The school collected more than 1,300 cans which is the largest amount in the school's ten year history.
Teachers say students were eager to bring in canned goods.
Each class competed to see who could bring in the most food.
"When they announced it over the intercom that we had won, you could hear it all over the building. They screamed so loud, they're really excited,” said Elizabeth Byard, 4th Grade Teacher.
The Salvation Army will continue to pick up food from City and County schools through Thursday.
