The City of Progress officially rang in the holiday season tonight.

The Enterprise Christmas Parade brings hundreds of visitors downtown which means good news for local businesses.

"A lot of people don't realize how much our downtown area has re-birthed itself. The absolute exposure to the people coming downtown to see the parade and look at all the new businesses and what's in their windows and will hopefully be able to shop later on," Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell said.

Enterprise residents enjoy that exposure.

"It gives the shop owners down here an opportunity to have a lot more walking patrons to come and check it out," Jojo’s boutique Owner, Joni Nicole Gray said.

"It's always one of our biggest nights. It's always a lot of fun," Milky Moo’s Owner, Lisa Gray said.

"It allows everyone to kick off the Christmas season," Boswell said.

For many that's one of the most wonderful and busiest times of the year.

"Everybody gets in the shopping spirit. Christmas is really a joyous time to begin with, so as a shop owner we all look forward to this time of year," Joni Nicole Gray said.

"We do a lot of candy sales, we do party trays it's just a great time of the year and people are always having so much fun when they come in," Lisa Gray said.

If that isn’t holiday cheer to spread far and near, helping the city's economy should be.

"If we can shop locally it does a great deal for our community. One it supports our first responders, our schools and it helps us take care of our streets," Boswell said.

There were more than 130 entries in the parade, which is 25 more than last year.

Some downtown Enterprise businesses will extend their hours during the holidays.

You can check them out at the city's Christmas tree lighting as well.

It starts at 5 p.m. Thursday.
