Education Leaders Ask for Increase in Funding

Education leaders are asking for a $474 million increase in funding this year.

Only a $134 million increase is expected to be available in this year's education trust fund budget.

Education budget hearings began this morning in Montgomery.

State school superintendent Tommy Bice requested a 6 percent increase for k through 12 public schools.

He wants to add teachers in grades 6 through 8.
