Dothan is one step closer to having a joint communications center.
The E911 advisory board has been looking at the old Mayer building on North Foster Street to house both the Dothan and Houston county dispatch offices.
Tuesday the board approved paying $6,500 to have Poly-Engineering of Dothan evaluate the building.
It's 114,000 square feet, and the purchase price of $500,000 has been discussed.
"There's a lot of square footage there. Before we even consider buying the building we want to make sure it's structurally sound and basically what we want to use it for will not cost us a lot more money than building one," said Houston County EMA Director, Clark Matthews.
The engineers will begin their evaluation in the next ten days. It will be a few weeks before the board hears the recommendation.
