The Downtown Music Fest makes a huge donation to the ALS Foundation.
ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord.
The group presented $40,000 to the foundation from proceeds raised at the festival last month.
"It's amazing for a first time event to raise this kind of money. You never know it could be someone in your family or it can be you,” said Terry Collins, who suffers from the disease.
As many as 20,000 Americans have ALS.
The organization has already started planning for next year's Festival.

Just to make things clear, rather than saying that als affects nerves, it would be more correct that als the name for a condition characterised by degeneration of the nerves. What affects the nerves are various factors and patterns in a person's life. These factors and patterns include things such as stress, toxins and various types of emotional and psychological factors that come together in a certain way to create the situation called als.
