Before the game kicked off Dothan's Downtown Christmas Festival brought out people of all ages today.
Members of the Downtown Group say it’s the largest crowd to attend the festival in its six year history.
“I wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning and I've got a knot in my stomach and I wonder did the weatherman lie to me? Are my volunteers going to be there?” said Cathy Cole, a member of the Downtown Group.
The Downtown Christmas Festival was a picture perfect day.
“We love it! There's stuff for the kids to do. There's stuff for my sister and I to buy,” said Natalie Mendheim.
Virginia Watford, employee at The Nature Gallery said, “Business has been great today. It's been fun seeing all these people down here in downtown Dothan. I'm not used to this many people, so it's fun to see all the new faces.”
Santa even stopped by the fest, but kids were more fascinated by the snow.
Other than snow ball fights, some say another highlight was the opening of Grand on Foster.
“People are taking tours and getting excited about their downtown. The Downtown Christmas Festival is all about giving something back to the community,” said Cole.
Local businesses sponsored many of the events making it free to families.
“When you get the momentum going you're on fire and people are getting excited and investors are coming down here,” said Cole.
And that's the reason the Downtown Group rarely takes a vacation.
“What we're seeing down here is a lot of these properties are being purchased,” said Cole.
Cathy Cole says she's proud of what downtown had become.
She says next year we can look forward to more properties being revitalized.
