The Southeast Alabama Medical Center is celebrating its first birth of 2011.
As people began to countdown to the New Year, mothers across Dothan competed for the top spot of having Dothan's first baby of 2011.
The baby race was ultimately won by the Tice family.
Newborn Anna Liya Tice now holds the title as Dothan's New Year Baby.
“She'll get to have this as her story forever," said Erin Tice, mother of Anna Liya.
Tice is now a mother of four and she says everyone was thrilled by the news.
“The little one said ‘A baby, a baby!’ and he just cried and cried."
But Anna Liya almost had another equally unique birthday.
“The first due date was 1-11-11 but I had been having contractions and been uncomfortable on the 31st and my water broke at 12:20 at our house and we came in right away."
Her husband admits having a baby girl around the house will take time to get used to.
“I have 3 boys so as a man that's pretty awesome to have now I have to get tough and deal with a daughter," said Michael Tice.
Getting tough won't be hard for Dothan's New Year baby.
With her 3 brothers doubling as body guards and the love and affection from her parent’s things shouldn't be that difficult, if she follows the rules.
“There's no cable, no tv, and no internet at the house," said Erin Tice.
SAMC delivered more than 1,500 babies last year.
As of press time, Flowers Hospital had not delivered any babies.
