Officials say Dothan’s finances are in good shape.
City Manager Mike West gave his annual report on Dothan's financial situation at Tuesday’s city commission meeting.
He says Dothan’s reserves are healthy, but they will need to spend a lot of money over the next few years on major projects. This includes water, electric and sewer issues.
Leaders also need to focus on economic and job growth.
“We still have somewhere around 70 percent unemployment. Several years ago it was below 4 percent. We need to get that back. One of our solutions to the sales tax will be getting people employed so they have money to spend,” said West.
