Dothan's Economic Summit on Jobs

Every month officials release a national, regional, and state jobs report, a stark reminder to Americans that the numbers aren't so great.
In the circle city, community leaders have an idea to help lower the number of job losses in the Dothan area.
Community leaders, business professionals, and others came together to brain storm on ways to create jobs in Dothan.
Walk into the Dothan Civic Center and attendees were busy, working on bringing jobs to Dothan.
The day started with break-out sessions.

"We have seven different groups and each one is concentrating on one particular area everything from quality of life issues, to discussion about aviation it's certainly one of our industries, " says Valerie Harris, Coordinator of the Dothan Economic Summit on Jobs.

Billy Mayes attended the session and says it's about working together to help Dothan grow.

"Some of the relationships we need to build with those that are outside of this country that we can bring back to this area, that will help bring jobs to our area."

Mayes is talking the Asian delegation that sees Dothan as a prospect for business opportunities.
The representatives, of various companies, are in the circle city for the remainder of the week.

Now, for those out of work right, summit organizers want to assure you, city leaders’ work around the clock to bring in more jobs.

"If they only knew how many hours are being spent trying to get other businesses here, the chamber has worked diligently, the city, the county, they're all working together," says Valerie Harris, Coordinator of the Dothan Economic Summit on Jobs.

After the break-out sessions, participants came back together, each group presenting one goal that can be accomplished within the next 12-months.

The groups reported several ideas; including making sure people are driven to our downtown area.
The group also wants to start a website that allows businesses and or organizations to announce the next event coming to Dothan.
