Dothan City Commissioners Approve 2 1/2 Million Dollars for New Libraries

The city of Dothan is closer to getting funding for two new libraries.

District 2 Commissioner Amos Newsome was the lone dissenting vote.

He says only one library should be built because it will cost more to operate two separate buildings.

The money will be paid over the course of four years.

The libraries will be built at the current site and on Westgate Parkway.

"Today was wonderful news and although we had anticipated the support from the city there's nothing like Having it finally officially approved," said Houston Love Memorial Library Bettye Forbus.

Houston County commissioners will vote on Monday whether to pay the million dollars the system requested from them.

Library officials hope to break ground in October
