Dothan Neighborhood Watch Programs

Over the last few weeks, we've seen several robberies in our area.
The robberies have affected several resident and local businesses.

Dothan is known for being a low crime area, but recently several residential and commercial robberies have been happening.
But there is one way you can help keep crime low in the circle city.

Drive into the garden district in Dothan and the signs are posted,
Community watch neighborhood, it's a program that is simple to start through the Dothan Police Department.

"If a person is interested in starting a community watch they can just give us a call, we go through a training program, where we have several classes that we give, to kind of give you advice on several situation," says Corporal David Schwab with the Dothan Police Department.

The program has been in effect since 2010, and officers say it can help your neighborhood if you decide to start a program.

"That helps us, kind of being the eyes and ears of the police department, it helps us a lot in solving crimes, as well as preventing crimes," says Corporal David Schwab with the Dothan Police Department.

And here at the police department they want you to know all it takes is one phone call to alert police.

"No call is too small, if there is any need that you feel you have please call us, we want to help,” says Corporal David Schwab with the Dothan Police Department.

The watch program is not just for neighborhoods, business can also take advantage.

"We do have programs that we do present to businesses to help their employees be more aware of what's going on when they are open," says Corporal David Schwab with the Dothan Police Department.

And the message to criminals is simple.

"The neighbors are watching out for each other and they are taking back their streets, and they will take action at least as far as letting us know what's going on, anything they see going on, and we will coming and take care of business," says Corporal David Schwab with the Dothan Police Department.

Starting a watch program through the Dothan Police Department is free of charge.
