The Dothan city jail will soon get new, updated software.
Tuesday city commissioners agreed to enter an agreement with the National Institute for Jail Operations.
This will let the city use the jail audit and risk management system for detention institutions.
Authorities say they'll be able to interact with other agencies across the country.
"You really want to reduce the liability for the city and the jail. A lot of our lawsuits come from suits in the jail so this will hopefully decrease those lawsuits," DPD Chief Greg Benton.
It will cost the city 2,000 dollars to implement.
There will also be a monthly fee of $85 for a 60-month period.
