Cameron Lynn has a whole lot of drive

Lynn said, “I plan on doing this for the rest of my life, painting cars and fixing things.”

Lynn is an Auto Repair Major at Wallace Community College, and that drive was just what the Dothan bomb squad's old truck was missing.

Dothan Chief of Police Gregory Benton said, “We really had to baby the old truck and we just had to make sure it got there.”

But those days are behind them now.

A new truck for the squad came all the way from Missouri, but it wasn't cheap.

Lt. Scott Heath said, “This truck is originally seven years old and is just shy of 400 thousand dollars. We bought it for 315 thousand dollars.”

It needed work and that wasn't going to be cheap either.

Until students like Lynn jumped in to help.

Lynn said, “I sanded the top down for them and took down the insides of the truck and put the lights on.”

Sending guys like Lynn up to sand and paint, kept the price from hitting the roof

Chief Benton said, “We could have contracted this out and it would have cost a tremendous amount of money. It's a very large project and a very large vehicle. It would have consumed a lot of money.”

But it was more than a penny saved.

Lt. Heath said, “It allowed us to put our guard down.”

Lynn said, “It was a wonderful experience, all of them have good personalities and all of them are not the same.”

An experience officers hope they remember for a long time.

Chief Benton said, “Being able to bond with them in this way it definitely helps us and building those partnerships.”

Partnerships everyone hopes will continue on into more projects.
