NEW YORK (AP) - A site in north Alabama is among four that GE has chosen in a $432 million bid for a new energy efficient line of refrigerators and other appliances.
An existing General Electric location in Decatur, Ala., was picked along with three others to be a refrigeration design and manufacturing center.
GE said Monday the move will create 500 new jobs by 2014 and help preserve another 1,166 existing positions.
GE said its investment is an effort to revitalize its appliance business and take advantage of the increasing global competitiveness of U.S. factories.
