Dale Co. Sheriff is Officer of the Year

He handled the FBI, national media and helped get a local boy rescued from an underground bunker.

Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson received one of the top honors for law enforcement in Alabama. He's named officier of the year.

It came as a surprise when Sheriff Olson attended the annual Wiregrass Angel House Governor's Conference in Montgomery.

The sheriff says he's humbled by the honor and it shows.

He credits his staff for the outcome in the week long stand-off with Jimmy Lee Dykes.
But now the little boy, Ethan, is safe.

Sheriff Olson just wants him and the community to heal.
