ANNISTON, Ala. (AP) - BAE Systems, a defense firm that contracts with Anniston Army Depot, has announced plans to lay off 107 workers in its Anniston location.
The British-owned company said Wednesday the decision was due to
reduced U.S. government orders for armored personnel carriers for
fiscal 2011. BAE refurbishes the M88 and M113A vehicles at its Anniston location.
Local residents have been bracing for a possible slowdown in production at the Depot and associated industries, due to the drawdown in Iraq.
