The 34th annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will be next Tuesday, November 27th in the Dothan Civic Center parking lot.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the City of Dothan. The Department of Leisure Services has been hard at work making sure that Santa doesn't forget the Circle City as he passes over us next month.
"We spend a lot of time and put a lot of effort into making it just really in the Christmas spirit," says Landscaping Manager Dan Williams.
And these little helpers look forward to the project every year.
"Basically go through everything. Different departments do their own thing but we try to coordinate and get everyone on the same page," Williams adds.
For Williams the best part is seeing how the city is transformed overnight. "I think it really just shows that Dothan cares...that Dothan is a place that wants to make things very inviting and warm and invite people in for the Christmas Season," he explains.
But this transformation comes at a price.
These decorations behind me are all leading up to one special day but it takes several days of planning and hard work to make it a reality.
Stephanie Wingfield, Leisure Services Center Manager, headed up the project for a second year and even though the work adds up, she says the end result is worth it.
"Watching the expressions on the children's faces..especially when they have the Christmas Tree Lighting because everybody comes together, the lights are turned on and the children are really excited," says Wingfield.
And it's not just the children who are full of excitement.
"I feel really good about having a part in that," she adds.
A small part in making the Holidays a little more magical for others.
