Chinese national arrested in student's 1996 death

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A 35-year-old Chinese national has been arrested in connection with the 1996 slaying of a Jacksonville
State University student.

Northern District of Alabama U.S. Marshal Martin Keely said
Tuesday that Chen Shi was arrested in Minneapolis by a team of
deputy marshals.

Shi is wanted by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office on a murder
charge in the death of 27-year-old Zihui Liu, who was last seen
alive in October 1996. Her body was found by utility workers two
months later.

Authorities say Shi fled Alabama in 1996 and has been working
for restaurants in the "Chinese Underground" - a system where
restaurant workers move often and live in housing provided by the
owners.

They say Shi was working as a manager at a Fresh Wok restaurant
in Minneapolis when she was arrested.
