Ashford Police Chief Jim Stanley says he beefed up security to ensure Lance Corporal Jason Barfield's funeral wasn't interrupted.

Earlier this week there were reports of protestors possibly picketing outside of the funeral.

Stanley says the Houston County Sheriff's Office, state troopers, and surrounding officers were requested.

The group held daily security meetings leading up to the funeral.

"The time we got notified of it, people were contacting the local law enforcement about preparations. I just can't believe the amount of people that came out to make this a smooth, and respectful event," said Stanley.

Stanley says the procession was a humbling experience.

He thanks the community for their cooperation.
