Caregivers Training Workshop

It is a difficult task caring for aging citizens, so the pike county extension agency hosted a workshop to give caregivers vital information.

When the 1940 census records are released Monday, April 2, Morris will see her own name and details about her life in the records being released after 72 years of confidentiality expires, allowing her to find out more about her family tree. It is a difficult task caring for aging citizens, so the pike county extension agency hosted a workshop to give caregivers vital information.

Caring for older adults is draining emotionally, mentally, and financially, so this group is attending a training session to learn how to better care for those senior citizens.

Margaret Pierson says she has been waiting on a workshop like this to come to pike county.

"We need more of this, to help other people. I am sure there are a lot of people out in the community that would be interested in programs like this," says caregiver Margaret Brown.

The workshop gave each caregiver tips on how to deal with behavioral problems associated with forms of dementia, along with nutrition guidelines, and how to financially care for the aging.

That's something social worker Kari brown says is greatly needed.

"There are people that fall in income brackets that aren't given certain resources, those people that fall in the middle the resources and the financial responsibility is left on the family and those caregivers," says Social worker Kari Brown.

Nutritionist Teresa Forehand says people tend to not remember how important it is to ensure quality foods for the elderly.

"Sometimes your doctor may prescribe a special diet, they may have to have a puréed diet, you may have to alter texture, you need to understand carbohydrate count," says Nutritionist Teresa Forehand.

All important information that will help this group care for their loved one.
