BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a Birmingham woman was hurt after the hot water tank in her apartment exploded.
The Birmingham News reports that firefighters were called shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday. Birmingham fire Capt. J.P. Lewis says Birmingham Fire and Rescue took the woman to UAB Hospital with minor injuries.
The explosion caused a fire that heavily damaged the apartment and a utility room.
Lewis says it appears that the woman had someone other than the utility company turn on her gas water heater.
