BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A former Birmingham police officer pleaded not guilty to charges he beat an unconscious suspect.
David Wayne Doran entered the plea Thursday during his arraignment in U.S. District Court.
The beating, which was caught on videotape, took place following a 22-minute chase on Jan. 23, 2008. The chase involved nine police cars and included officers from Birmingham, Hoover and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Doran, Dewitt and three other officers were fired from the Birmingham police force following the incident, but only Doran and Dewitt have been indicted.
