Dothan, AL - After a month in the Wiregrass, one World War II aircraft is back home.

The B-17 stopped in Dothan at the beginning of October for a coming home tour.

Now it's done for the season, and the Experimental Aircraft Association flew it back to Wisconsin Tuesday morning.

This aircraft does have ties to the Wiregrass.

"This airplane was actually based here in Dothan many, many years ago as a workhorse airplane. It's restored back to its World War II. It's being flown around the country to share the iconic aspect of what a B-17 is with the rest of the country," said Sean Elliott, Experimental Aircraft Association.

12,731 B-17s were built in World War II, and there are only eight that remain in flying condition.
