Army Fleet Support Raises Funds for United Way

The Wiregrass United Way is getting a nice Christmas gift.

Army Fleet Support has raised more than $220,000 to help the local organizations the united way supports.

Although a variety of special events such as pie-throwing contests, dessert auctions and other fundraisers help raise some funds; most of the donations came from payroll deductions.

United Way leaders say those funds are crucial.

“That's how most organizations receive the bulk of their funds. It's not through the small things they do throughout the year, it's through these organized campaigns that some of them receive up to 80 or 90 percent of their budget that way,” says Wiregrass United Way’s CEO, Walter Hill.

This year's wiregrass united way campaign will end in late January, and they are $100,000 away from their annual goal.
