Dothan, Ala.—Eight area high schools converged on the Wallace Community College campus on February 15 to compete in the 32nd Annual Scholars’ Bowl Tournament. Teams representing Abbeville High School, Abbeville Christian, Geneva County High School, Headland High School, Northview High School, Providence Christian, Samson High School, and Wicksburg High School competed in the event.
After the final round, Headland High School was the victor, with Abbeville Christian Academy in 2nd place, and Wicksburg High School taking 3rd. Taylor Murray from Wicksburg was the top scoring senior, which won him a one-year scholarship to WCC.
Students competing in the Scholars’ Bowl were: Abbeville High School: Michael Bolt, Jada Donnell, Kristen Gochett, Kris Graham, Zorriya Kelly, Kirby Pitchford, Eric Tanner, Angelica Thompson, and Georgia Widner; Abbeville Christian Academy: Logan Blalock, Lindsey Giles, Dallas Day, Allisa Fleming, Blaine Sellers, and Audrey Watford; Geneva County High School: Clara Blankenship, Taylor Boneau, Justin Brock, Chelsey Brunson, Laine Dillard, Brianne Fitzgerald, Brittany Kendziorsi, Nicole Kendziorski, Hana Kilgus, Amber Lane, Noah Riley, and Jasmine Smith; Headland High School: Brandi Barnett, Rachael Carver, Lindsey Elkins, Trey Hicks, Kaleb Johnson, and Sarah Jenks; Northview High School: Elizabeth Bradley, Nolan Craig, Beza Eyob, Connor McDonald, Lauren McGainey, and Laura Wise; Providence Christian School: Timothy Brown, Kathleen Egbert, Anna Kelley, John Morris, and Anna Sampson; Samson High School: Marty Bowden, Matt Danner, Kaila Gorman, Nevada Miller, Hunter McCoy, Danh Nguyen, Gaven Petty, and Hayden Warren; Wicksburg High School: Eros Arriaga , Adam Brown, Melia Cotter, Dillion Driskell, Taylor Murray, Bradley Probert, Mason Redden, Jon Thomas, and Jacob Williamson.
The competitive questions covered a range of topics, including math, history, literature, current events, pop culture, science, and sports. The Scholars’ Bowl is an annual event at Wallace and is open to all high schools in Wallace Community College’s service area, which includes Houston, Henry, Barbour, Bullock, Russell, Dale and Geneva counties.
