Dothan, Ala. – The Altrusa Club of Dothan presented a donation of $19,307.99 to fund the Kate Register Nursing Scholarship for Wallace Community College. Created in honor of Mrs. Kate Register, a founding member of the Altrusa Club, the scholarship has been given to a deserving nursing student since 2007.
Mrs. Dorma Granger, Altrusa Club Treasurer, and Mrs. Sue Hicks, Altrusa Club Board member, presented the donation on behalf of the Altrusa Club of Dothan, to the WCC Foundation to fund future scholarships in memory of Mrs. Register.
The Kate Register Nursing Scholarship pays up to $1536 for each semester. Eligible students must have completed at least one term in a WCC nursing program, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate financial need, and register for a load consistent with the program.
“This scholarship has given me the ability to walk one step closer to my dream – becoming a Registered Nurse. I will ever be grateful,” said Brian Sherman, recipient of the fall 2013 scholarship. Sherman holds a 3.779 GPA.
