The Winter Weather Awareness Week put on by the National Weather Service and the Emergency Management Agencies of the state of Alabama continues with a look at how one can prepare a home for winter weather.
With winter weather comes cold, and experts advise that you should have your home be well insulated. They recommend caulking and weather-stripping doors and windows to keep cold from leaking in.

Also, it is recommended that each home have an emergency heater should the main source of heat fail.
Outside, insulate your water pipes with foam or even newspaper to help prevent bursting.
If a hard freeze is expected, let your outdoor faucets drip slightly to prevent damage.
