Winter Weather Awareness Week from the National Weather Service and the Alabama Emergency Management Agency continues. Wednesday’s topic deals with how to prepare for winter weather.

As the potential for winter weather approaches, a person should keep informed of the developing weather conditions. News 4 provides a variety of ways to do this with our weather page, desktop alert program, and reports on TV throughout the day if a winter weather event is imminent.
The American Red Cross recommends that everyone be prepared for winter weather with a disaster supply kit. This supply kit should contain such items as a three-day supply of water and food, clothing, a first aid kit, money, any medicines you may need, rain gear, paper and sturdy shoes. They also recommend storing these materials in a water-proof container for extra protection.
