Dena Malguen is expanding her business

Chill Vice President Dena Malguen said, "We have five corporate stores and as of this month, we will have eight franchise stores. So seven open with one more on the way."

Chill is her popular frozen yogurt business. It’s thriving during a time when most people are closing their doors,

Similarly, Studio Y Yoga owner Laura Lee Stjernstrom says she hired more help when the demand at her yoga studio increased.

Stjernstrom said, "We've tripled the number of classes available we have triple the expertise and it just feels really good to be able to offer that to Dothan."

She didn’t expect the expansion.

Stjernstrom said, "I'm actually pleasantly surprised that I’m able to"

Officials say business in the circle city wasn't always booming.

Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Parker said, "Things bottomed the first part of 2010 with the economy. We're seeing the unemployment rate drop really about 2.3 percentage points"

Malguen hopes her success will give others hope.

Malguen said, “To have an opportunity to start something that hopefully will grow and start more jobs in other communities is a blessing."
