Alabama Poverty Rate

When it comes to kids, poverty isn't getting any better in Alabama.

A growing number of Alabamians under the age of 18 are living in poverty.

That's according to a recent southern regional education board study.

It shows Alabama with the 4th highest childhood poverty rate as of 2010.

The state falls behind New Mexico, Mississippi and Washington D.C. and had the 8th highest childhood poverty rate in 2005.

Childhood poverty rates throughout the south are also trending upward.
