Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen announced the arrest of a Alabama man after deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a man shooting out of a vehicle. The vehicle was traveling in the area of Jenks Avenue and 15th Street.
Dispatchers relayed a description of the vehicle and direction of travel, and deputies located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Jenks Avenue and Baldwin Road and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle immediately fled.
After a short pursuit through the Highland Park area, the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot into a residential neighborhood. Deputies pursued using a K-9 to track the suspect where he was quickly located hiding behind a fence.
BCSO field deputies and members of ROGUE (Repeat Offender and Gang Unit Enforcement) recovered a semi auto handgun and over 25 grams of Crack Cocaine packaged for sale at the place the suspect was found hiding.
Deputies charged Rodney Markeith Wright, DOB 9/17/85, of 2300 14th Avenue, Birmingham, Alabama, with Possession of Crack Cocaine With Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine (HCL) with Intent to Distribute, Felony Fleeing and Eluding Police, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.
Investigators learned this morning that the semi auto handgun was reported stolen to the Panama City Police Department. Wright is lodged in the Bay County Jail awaiting first appearance.
