Alabama Legislature Completes Work on Budgets

The Alabama House finished work on the budgets Wednesday morning when it approved a $1.8 billion general fund budget for most non-education state agencies.

Some House members complained that the final budget approved by a House-Senate conference committee provides additional cuts to some state agencies, including Medicaid.

Democratic Rep. Pebblin Warren of Tuskegee said that by cutting Medicaid, the Legislature was disregarding the needs of older Alabama residents.

Bentley said he expects to make changes to the general fund budget and send it back to the Legislature before the end of the session.
