BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A Jefferson County circuit judge has been asked to either halt next week's gubernatorial election or take Republican candidate Robert Bentley off the ballot.
An attorney for former Birmingham City Councilman Jimmy Blake argued Friday that Bentley shouldn't be on the ballot because he didn't disclose contributions from the Alabama Education Association.
At a hearing on the challenge, lawyers for Bentley argued that
courts don't have the power to block the vote.
The governor and state attorney general also opposed Blake's request.
Circuit Judge Nicole Still indicated she'll rule quickly on the suit.
