MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Gov. Robert Bentley is spending the weekend in Washington with governors from across the country.

Bentley is attending the winter meeting of the National Governors Association.

Bentley says the meeting is an opportunity to showcase the positive things happening in Alabama.

He will lead a meeting of the association's Economic Development and Commerce Committee on Saturday. He plans to discuss the $1 billion road building program begun by his administration.

Bentley is slated to address the Health and Human Services Committee on Sunday about Alabama's efforts to combat prescription drug abuse. Alabama's Children's Affairs commissioner, Jeana Ross, will outline Alabama's voluntary pre-kindergarten program for the governors on Sunday.

Bentley will discuss federal and state issues with other governors on Monday and plans to return to Alabama on Monday evening.
