DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) -- A woman has been found guilty of child abuse after authorities say a 7-week-old baby drank an alcoholic beverage from a baby bottle.
Angelica Hawkins was arrested in November along with the baby's mother - her 16-year-old cousin. Authorities say police were called to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center after doctors determined the baby's blood-alcohol level was .386.
An attorney representing 26-year-old Hawkins says she assumed a water bottle contained water before she used its contents to make a bottle that she handed to the baby's mother. Prosecutors say the smell of alcohol coming from the water bottle was overwhelming and Hawkins' story doesn't add up.
The Dothan Eagle reports that Hawkins faces between two and 20 years in prison, and is scheduled to be sentenced June 19. The full article can be seen here http://bit.ly/YHuusU.
