TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Tuition could be going up for the sixth straight year for the three-campus University of Alabama system.

Trustees meet Friday to consider tuition increases for the main campus in Tuscaloosa plus the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The proposed increase of almost 3 percent would be the smallest in a string of cost hikes that officials have blamed in part on reductions in state funding for the system.

Tuition for full-time undergraduate and graduate students at the main campus in Tuscaloosa would jump $125 per semester under the proposal. Out-of-state tuition would go up $500 a semester.

More than 33,000 students attend Alabama in Tuscaloosa. UAB's enrollment is about 18,000, while about 7,600 students attend Alabama-Huntsville.
