Martie Duncan at Alabama Restaurant Week

People have been bustling in and out of local restaurants more than usual this week. The state's first Alabama Restaurant Week allows businesses to showcase specials at a discounted rate.

"We normally just serve the country food...our friend chicken and country fried steak. We decided to do it a little different this week and to promote our shrimp," said Dianna at Zack’s Family Restaurant.

Dothan participants include Zack's, the Basketcase Cafe, the River Nile, and Firestone Wood Fired Pizza and Grill.

"We have been busier this week, people wanting to try the sandwich. I think they knew we were thinking about adding to the menu, so they were eager to try it. And I don't think the cornbread salad hurt at all, said Donna Balzaratti at the Basketcase Café.

Along with more patrons, Martie Duncan, finalist on the Next Food Network Star, made an appearance to promote the event.

"What it can do is drive traffic to the doors of these businesses. These mom and pops and really businesses that struggle to get money for business and promotion. Second of all, it helps people, the consumers, guests like me to go. Because you know if I get a deal there I think well I will try it," said Martie Duncan.

Restaurants seem to agree with that idea.

“I think it is will be fun to bring some plates out and show them what we can do,” said Rick Balzaratti at the Basketcase Café.

Restaurant Week continues until next Monday so be sure to check out the special deals while you can.
