DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) -- An Alabama man has been convicted of raping a woman after forcing his way into her home on Christmas morning.
Reports say prosecutors will seek a sentence of life without parole for 36-year-old Spencer Martin of Dothan, who was found guilty of felony first-degree rape by a Houston County jury.
Assistant District Attorney Banks Smith says prosecutors used DNA evidence to help convict Martin. He said Martin came into the victim's home with a gun on Christmas morning last year, made her dump her purse on the kitchen table and then raped her in a bedroom.
However, jurors acquitted Martin on felony first-degree robbery charges.
Martin will be sentenced later. Smith says prosecutors will seek a life sentence based in part on Martin's four prior felony convictions.
