Ala. Tax Preparer Found Guilty in Tax Fraud Scheme

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Officials in the U.S. Attorney's Office say a Birmingham tax preparer has been convicted of helping a client file fraudulent tax returns.

Authorities say Wynn knew her client made at least $340,000, but filed tax returns claiming he made between $55,000 and $66,000. Officials say the man is still facing criminal charges in the case.

Authorities say 64-year-old Sally Elizabeth Wynn has been found guilty of three counts of aiding and abetting the filing of a false return. Officials say Wynn, who has 30 years of experience as a tax preparer, helped a client hide income from the IRS between 2005 and 2007.

Wynn is scheduled to be sentenced May 8, and authorities say she could face a maximum of three years in prison for each of the three charges.
