Ala. School Temporarily Relocates After Tornado

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- Students of Murphy High School -- which sustained about $10 million in damage in a Christmas Day tornado -- are preparing to resume courses in portable classrooms at a west Mobile middle school.

AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/Tx93pK) about 30 portable classrooms have been installed for Murphy's 2,250 students behind Clark-Shaw Magnet School in west Mobile. Additional portables will be installed before the high school students resume classes Jan. 7.

School officials say the high school and middle school students will be kept separate. High school students will be phased into their temporary campus by classification on separate days with seniors reporting back to school first.

The newspaper reports Murphy is planning to build a two-story win onto the school that was damaged in the tornado.
