Abbeville High School is more than just Brooks' new job.
It's also his home.
"I am very excited about being the principal here at Abbeville High School for several reasons im excited one reason I'm excited is this is my Alma mater," said new Principal Darryl Brooks.
Brooks journey to Abbeville High School as come full circle.
He graduated from Abbeville High in 1986 and he moved on to coach the girls basketball team later.
After coaching basketball he spent some time at the Dothan City School District and now he back at Abbeville High as their principal.
"Well I think that each of the seasons that I went through and when I say seasons I mean process of life …I think each process or each stage I went through helped me to get to where I am today," said Brooks.
And co-workers are proud of his accomplishments.
"My daughter and Coach Brooks graduated together as classmates hes just like my own son he just like I raised him so he's a good kid and a good man and now he's a good principal ...they had Ms. Carol as their English teacher …and they would work on their research paper for Ms. Betty Carol and I think that he told me in one of his research papers that he told Ms. Carol that he wanted to be a school teacher and then he wanted to be a principal and then he wanted to be the superintendent so his wish is coming true," said Harriet Horsley, secretary at Abbeville High School.
Horsely isn't the only one who has high hopes for Brooks.
"I know what type person he is he is a good person he is a good man and I think he is going to make an outstanding principal here at Abbeville High School he has a lot of heart and a lot of heart for the high school and he wants it to be successful," said Stephanie Capps, guidance counselor at Abbeville High School.
"I am honored to be here as the principal of Abbeville High School," said Brooks.
