MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is inviting artists to participate in the 2014 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp art competition.
Officials say the competition opens Jan. 1 and winning artwork will be featured as the 2015-2016 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp. The stamp is required to be purchased when hunting migratory waterfowl. Officials say proceeds from the sales are used to establish and improve habitats for the birds.
The competition closes Feb. 18 and is open to Alabama artists only. Eligible entries will be displayed through Feb. 28 in the Richard Beard Building in Montgomery.
Officials say only horizontal drawings of North American migratory ducks or geese are eligible. Depictions of ring-necked ducks, Ross's goose and northern pintails won the past three contests, and are ineligible for the 2014 competition.
