EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) -- The chairman of the Alabama Republican Party says the sellout crowd that Mike Huckabee attracted in traditionally Democratic Barbour County is a sign of how Alabama is changing.
Bill Armistead said Monday that Barbour County didn't have a Republican Party a few years ago, but now it's one of the fastest growing in the state. He said more than 300 people attended the fundraiser Saturday night organized by the state GOP and the Barbour County Republican Club. Tickets were $100 each.
Huckabee's appearance came after he recommended the Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day to support company President Dan Cathy. The Fox TV host told the Eufaula audience that too often good, decent people speak out and no one stands with them. He said it was time for people to stand with Cathy.
